Dennis K. "Denny" Dawson, 72, of Waynesfield, passed away surrounded by his loving family at 6:05 p.m., Sunday, August 24, 2025. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Denny will be remembered for his generous heart, strong work ethic, and his lifelong passion for training barrel horses.

He was born on December 16, 1952 in Lima, to Darrel and Cecile (Cheney) Dawson who preceded him in death. On May 19, 1979 he married Carol Ann Murphy, with whom he shared many years of love and partnership.

Denny was a proud father to Jennifer (Matt) Gilroy, of Findlay and a cherished grandfather to Malayla and Teylan Gilroy, who brought great joy to his life. Survivors also include his siblings: Diane (Fred) Rostorfer, Dwight Dawson, Dwayne (Patty) Dawson, Barbara (Steve) Gross, and David Dawson; brother-in-laws Michael Murphy and Jim (Kelly) Murphy; and many nieces and nephews.

A 1971 graduate of Waynesfield High School, Denny spent much of his life as a dedicated barrel trainer, earning respect and admiration within the equestrian community. His knowledge and commitment helped shape not only the horses he trained but also the lives of those he mentored.

Beyond training horses, Denny was most proud of being a husband, father, and grandfather. With a heart rooted in family, he cherished every moment with his granddaughters-teaching them to ride, sharing his love of horses, and spending time together on the farm. Those days in the saddle and hours by his side will remain treasured memories for his family.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and dedication that will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who knew him.
