Gerhardt "Gary" Leppla, 74, of Wapakoneta, passed away at 5:09 a.m., Monday, March 30, 2026 at his son's residence in Sidney. He was born on October 29, 1951 in Lima, OH to Frank & Dorothy (Stark) Leppla who preceded him in death. On September 21, 2002, he married Teresa Y. Coil, who passed away on December 20, 2023.
He is survived by 4 sons, Craig A. (Renda) Leppla, of Sidney, Travis R. Leppla, of Texas, Gary M. (Brooke) Leppla, of Bellbrook, and David N. (Heather) Leppla, of Wilmington; 2 step-sons Jason W. (Brent Romes) Schwartz, of Lima, Jay R. (Sheila) Schwartz, of Spencerville; 16 grandchildren, Hailey, Brendon, Ayden, Olivia, Grace, Cierra, Jayden, Kylan, Reed, Dylan, Maggie, Gabriel, Zachary, Julia, Lily, and Anabelle; 4 great-grandchildren and 4 siblings Franz (Gretchen) Leppla, Martin (Linda) Leppla, Fergus Leppla, Maria Leppla.
Gary was preceded in death by 2 siblings John Leppla, Beverly Lantz.
Gary was a 1972 graduate of Wapakoneta High School. He started working at the local truck stop when it first opened and then began his career at the Auglaize County Fairgrounds for 37 years as caretaker.
Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 3, 2026 at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Wapakoneta with Chaplain Herb Wilker officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery, Fryburg. Family and friends may visit from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Auglaize County Agricultural Society for a tree donation in his honor.
