James P. "Jim" Everhart, 80, of Wapakoneta, passed away at 12:42 a.m., Friday, November 14, 2025 at Mercy Health-St. Rita's. He was born on July 16, 1945 in Lima, to Paul and Beatrice (Gillette) Everhart who have preceded him in death. On December 12, 1970, he married Jennifer S. "Jenny" Fleming, who survives.
Survivors also include two daughters, Janie (Jason) Childress and Katie (Josh) Copeland, both of Wapakoneta; the highlights of his life, grandchildren, Grant Childress, Lizzie Childress, Joshua Copeland, and step-grandson, Dylan Copeland; and his sister, Vergie (Gary) Truesdale, of Spencerville.
Jim graduated from Wapakoneta High School in 1963 and was drafted to serve in the Army during the Vietnam era. After 35 years of service, he retired from BP Chemicals, Lima. Jim had been attending Wapak First Church. Always one to speak his mind, Jim was always ready with a whitty remark or respond with a quick comeback. He loved following The Ohio State Buckeyes and any Redskins sport that his grandchildren were participating in. His grandkids knew that he never missed an activity. Jim was proud to be a lifelong LA Dodgers fan, his Dodgers flag was flying long before the back to back World Series Championships.
A Time of Gathering for family and friends will be held 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 20, 2025 at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be directed to the Wapakoneta Athletic Boosters.
