Joe G. Howell

Joe G. Howell, 82, of Waynesfield, passed away at 6:00 p.m., Saturday, February 14, 2026 at Lima Memorial Health System.

He was born on December 15, 1943 in Lima to Charlton and Violet (Slagle) Howell who preceded him in death. On March 3, 1968 he married Pat (Ford) Howell and she survives in Waynesfield.

Survivors include two sons Chuck Howell of Kenton, Nathan Howell of Clayton, NC; 7 grandchildren Austin Howell, Dylan Howell, Jacob Howell, Liliana Howell, Cameron Howell, Joe Howell, Piper Howell; a great-granddaughter Huayra Howell and a sister Loretta (Ronald) Zimmerman of Waynesfield.

He was preceded in death by a daughter Heather Howell.

Joe was a 1962 graduate of Waynesfield-Goshen High School and proudly served in the U.S. Army as a field medic from 1965 to 1967. After his service, he returned to run the family business, Howell Hardware, until 1978. He then dedicated 30 years to the Ohio Department of Transportation, retiring in 2008. Joe was deeply involved in his community, being a member of Wayne Township Fire Department, American Legion and the Waynesfield United Methodist Church. He had a passion for motorsports, particularly NASCAR and dirt racing, and held a special love for animals.

There will be no public services, in accordance with Joe's wishes.
