John A. "Elf" Nicke, 69, of Wapakoneta, passed away the evening of Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at his residence. He was born on January 30, 1956 in Lima, to Donald N. and Mary E. (Dawson) Nicke who have preceded him in death.

Survivors include a friend, Deb Nicke, of Wapakoneta; and an extended family of nieces, nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his three older brothers, Darell, Michael, and Kenneth.

John attended Moline High School in Illinois. His journey as a lifelong musician began at a young age with the gift of a drum set. He would haul the drums everywhere he went, pulling them in a wagon. Throughout his life, John was in several different bands across Illinois and Ohio. Although the Rock Garden was also a spiritual place for him, he could be found there almost every Thursday with other local musicians.

When not making music himself, you could be sure John was listening to it. He loved anything from the '70s and '80s, but the Beatles were his favorite. Not one who enjoyed silence, if the music wasn't playing, the tv was on. John loved watching the old shows, like Gunsmoke and M.A.S.H. Playing into his nickname of Elf, you would often find him dressed as one, especially on St. Patrick's, Halloween and at Christmas.

There will be no public services and John will be cremated according to his wishes. Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services has been entrusted to handle the arrangements.
