Paul C. "Ike" Schnell, 95, of Wapakoneta, passed away at 4:28 p.m., Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at Mercy Health-St. Rita's. He was born on February 26, 1930 in Wapakoneta, to Dewey and Daisy (Wheeler) Schnell who have preceded him in death. On June 7, 1990, he married E. Jeanette "Jeanie" Achey, who survives in Wapakoneta.
Survivors include his son, Chuck (Rosalinda) Schnell, of Hilliard; two grandchildren, Sara Schnell and Paul Schnell; two great-grandchildren, Brady and Braxton; three stepchildren, Todd (Michele) Gibson, of Lima, Ted Gibson, of Wapakoneta, Tana (Hubert) Friemoth, of Delphos; four grandchildren, Josh Gibson, Noah Gibson, Emily (Corey) Herendeen, Brock Gibson; one great-grandchild, Eden; and an extended family of nephews and nieces, especially Rochelle (Mark) Kafouros, of Peoria, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kim Mitchell; and four siblings, Gene (Janet) Schnell, Mickey (Bert) Urich, Betty "BG" (Tom) Ellis and Floa Ripley.
A lifelong Wapakoneta resident, Ike graduated in 1948 from Wapak High School and served in the United States Army from 1951-1953. He logged many miles driving semi for the Fisher Cheese Company and Stahler Trucking. Ike also carried on the family legacy by co-owning the Brunswick Bar with his cousin, Ted Schnell. For 56 years, he served his community as an Auxiliary Deputy Sheriff for Auglaize County. As a member of the American Legion, Post 330, Wapak and the VFW Post 8445, Wapak, he enjoyed spending time with friends. Ike was also a member of First English Lutheran Church, Wapak.
Whenever the weather allowed, you were sure to find Ike outdoors. He loved to fish, work in his garden, and mow the grass... he did not like to sit still. An Ohio State fan year round, he was guaranteed to be rooting on the Buckeyes during football season. Locally, he loved going to Redskin football games on Friday nights, riding his lawn mower to get to the field. Cowboy movies were also a favorite, he had watched them all. For many years Ike and Jeanie were Arizona snowbirds, where he was always looking for an empty side-by-side seat to go on desert rides. His Arizona family affectionately named him the Tootsie Pop Man, as he was always handing them out to anyone with an open hand. We invite you to wear your Ohio State attire to Ike's services Wednesday and to enjoy a Tootsie Pop in his memory.
A memorial service will begin at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at First English Lutheran Church, Wapakoneta. Pastor Steve Nelson will officiate. Family and friends may gather from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the church. Interment of Ike's cremated remains will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, with military rites. Memorial contributions may be directed to First English Lutheran Church, Wapak, the American Cancer Society, or a charity of the donor's choice. The family has entrusted Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services to handle the arrangements.
