Richard Reuben "Reub" Maki, 91, of Wapakoneta, passed away at 4:42 a.m., Sunday, March 1, 2026 at Hospice of Cincinnati, Blue Ash Inpatient Care Center. He was born on June 28, 1934 in Ramsay, Michigan to Walter & Irene (Linn) Maki, who have preceded him in death. On August 2, 2001, he married Ann E. "Beth" Walter, who survives in Wapakoneta.

Survivors also include two daughters, Deborah Lee Maki Warden and Teresa Ann Maki; and five grandchildren, Charles Nathaniel Warden, Austin Walter Warden, Caitlyn Elyse (Michael) Macek, Collin Steven Jacks and Danika Renee Maki; Five nephews and nieces, Mike Berry, David Berry, Michelle Maki, Debra Ann Maki and Joanie Nichols.

He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Walter Maki; and four siblings, Ilona Berry, Lila Maki, Adelle Church, and David Maki.

Reuben served in the U. S. Navy from 1952-1956 during the Korean War, obtaining the rank Petty Officer Third Class. He was attached to the VF-51 "Screaming Eagles" fighter squadron aboard the USS Philippine Sea. His memberships included the American Legion, Post 330 and Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 691, both in Wapakoneta.

For 33 years Reub worked for AT&T Long Lines. His career took him from Portage, MI to Lombard, IL, Ottawa, IL, and Manhattan/New York City, NY, while living in New Providence, NJ, before returning him to Cincinnati. He retired early as an Engineering manager and returned to his previous position as a contractor.

Reuben was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. When not at work, he could be found outdoors, spending time hunting and fishing. Reub enjoyed a good book and spending time with his beloved dog, Molly.

A Memorial Service will begin at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Pastor Doug Pretorius will officiate. Military rites will be performed by the VFW, Post 8445, Wapakoneta. Interment of his cremated remains will be in St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to God's Storehouse.
