Gary L. Sawmiller, 80, of Wapakoneta, passed away at 10:05 a.m., Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at Kindred Hospital, Lima.

He was born on November 7, 1942 in Wapakoneta, OH to Alma and Nellie (Balthaser) Sawmiller who preceded him in death. On August 24, 1998 he married Janice M. Vaughn and she survives in Wapakoneta.

Survivors include a son Jerry (Ellen) Sawmiller; a daughter Vicki (Ed) Moran; 2 step-sons Matthew (Paula) Propst, David (Corina) Propst; 8 grandchildren Maddy (Nick) Frankenhauser, Mike (Amy) Sawmiller, Jake (Nichole) Moran, Amanda (Brian) Webb, Harli (Julian Lopez) Propst, Linda, Juni, Emma Propst; 11 great-grandchildren Callie, Colin, Colton Moran, Nolan, Ethan, Jill Frankenhauser, Chase, Tucker Sawmiller, LaRenzo, Alonzo, Aliviana Lopez; 2 brothers John Sawmiller and Forest (June) Sawmiller.

Gary was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

Gary was very mechanically inclined had worked at Ametek for 22 years as a maintenance manager. Then in 2007 they moved to North Carolina where he managed a plastics company. Then in 2019 after retiring they moved back to Wapakoneta. Gary loved anything to do with speed especially race cars and NASCAR. He was also an animal lover.

Per his wishes there will be no public services.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Mercy Health.

The Sawmiller family has entrusted Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services to handle the arrangements.
