Obituary

George Henry "Porky" Stinebaugh, 66, died peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at his home in Hot Springs, Montana.

He was born January 19, 1957 in Lima, OH to Jim and Alice (Galloway) Stinebaugh who both preceded him in death.

He was married to Stephanie Clark who survives in Galloway, Ohio.  Together they had a son James Augustus “Gus” Stinebaugh. Gus and his fiancée Cheyenne Porcella reside in Dublin, Ohio.

George was one of 8 children including Diane Garlock of Lima, Ohio, Bruce (Mary) Stinebaugh, Judy DuBois, Tom (Susan) Stinebaugh, Dan (Tammy) Stinebaugh, Tony (Michele) Stinebaugh, and Ginger Kiefer all of Wapakoneta, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Timothy Garlock and his nephew Mike Garlock.

George graduated from Wapakoneta High School in 1975.  After graduation he served in the United States Army from May of 1976 to August of 1978.  He then attended the Ohio State University where he studied education.  George was an avid outdoorsman.  He spent many summers hitchhiking to Alaska to work on the salmon boats and then would pass through Washington State and Oregon to pick apples before returning home to Wapak.  Popping a tent in the wilderness or with his son in the backyard was one of his favorite things.  He was able to travel through 49 of the 50 states, never making it to Hawaii.  George loved antiques, he was what is referred to today as a “picker”.  He enjoyed taking off in his Volvo to find new treasures or set up at an antique show to sell his finds.  George was always a nomad, a free-spirit who “danced to the beat of his own drum”.  When George wasn't nearby, he would check in with his family and friends by phone.  Conversations with him could last hours and would be full of old memories, politics, and just catching up.  George was known for his gift of gab and Irish goodbyes.  You could always count on George for a laugh and random trivia knowledge.  He was an avid reader, was quite the music buff, and loved animals.

A memorial service for George will be held at 4:30 p.m., Friday, May 5, 2023, at the Heritage Park Gazebo, Wapakoneta with Herb Wilker officiating. Military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 8445.  Following the memorial service, a celebration of life will be held at the Galloway located at 15 E. Auglaize St. in Wapakoneta, Ohio.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Auglaize County Humane Society.
