Jacob T. "Jay" Koenig

Jacob “Jay” T. Koenig II, 85, of Wapakoneta died at 9:50 p.m. Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s, Lima. 

He was born July 20, 1936, in Wapakoneta OH, the son of the late Marshall “Benny” and Mabel “Fern” (Brookhart) Koenig.  On June 1, 1958, he married Sandra Sue Louth who survives. 

Other survivors include two children, Tag (Deb) Koenig of Mentor, OH and Kim (Luke) Klein of Mt. Hope, WI; grandchildren Melissa (Gabe) Perme, Kevin (Adrienne Baird) and Meghan (fiancé Jason Garvin); brothers Terry (Barb) Koenig, Craig (Linda) Koenig, Brooks Koenig and Ty (Pat) Koenig.

Jay graduated from Blume High School in 1954 and then attended Ohio Northern University from 1954-1956.  Jay was a member of the Ohio National Guard.

Jay joined his father in the insurance business in 1954 until his retirement in 1997.  Jay was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Wapakoneta.  His other memberships included, Elks Lodge, VFW, Jaycees, Wapakoneta Area Community Foundation Trustee, Greenlawn Cemetery Board, Eagles, former member of the Wapakoneta Country Club and Hamer Lodge #167. Jay was a huge supporter of the Wapakoneta High School athletic programs.  Jay will always be remembered as never knowing a stranger.   

Memorial services will begin at 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 27, 2021 at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Wapakoneta with Rev. Becky Sunday officiating.  Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery at a later date.  Family and friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Wapakoneta Area Community Foundation.
