Ross E. Johnston

Ross Eugene Johnston, 88, of Wapakoneta, Ohio, died on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at Mercy Health Hospital in Lima, OH, surrounded by his loving family.    

He was born on December 26, 1934, in Lanstaff, Markum Township, York County, Ontario, Canada to Cecil Wilbert & C. Marguerite (James) Johnston.  Ross graduated in 1955 from Lakeview High School, OH. 

On July 21, 1956, he married the former Sadie M. Knight at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Toledo.  Sadie preceded him in death on August 10, 2019.  

He is survived by three children, Deborah L. Chambers of Mounds, Oklahoma, Randall D. (Anne) Johnston of Wapakoneta, Ohio, Michael A. (Nancy) Johnston of Omaha Nebraska; 4 grandchildren, Mandy (Angel) Menna, Alec, Samuel and Lillie Johnston; a sister, Marie (Ernest) Davis; a sister-in-law, Nancy (Johnston) Bickel; several step-grandsons; step-great grandsons; nieces; nephews and friends. 

Ross was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Kenneth Chambers; brothers, Orren (Wilma) Johnston, Cyril “Bud” Johnston, Ewart “Jim” (Mary E.) Johnston, Floyd “Joe” Johnston, Aubrey C. “Bob” Johnston; a sister, Kathleen E. (Carl) Moots; brothers-in-law, Robert U. “Bob” (Peg) Knight, James L. Knight, Thomas Knight and a sister-in-law, Betty J. Wegner.

Ross worked at Superior Coach, Lima, OH, Bull Construction, Ponca City, OK and then retired from First Tool Company in Dayton, OH.  He was an avid golfer and Ohio State Buckeye fan.  He enjoyed home cooked meals and spending time with his family and friends.  He will be lovingly remembered for his sharp wit and sense of humor.   

Funeral services will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Fr. Sean Wilson officiating.  Family and friends may visit from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.  Burial will be at a later date at Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta.
