Shirley M. Schroeder

Shirley M. Schroeder, 93, of Wapakoneta, passed away at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 23, 2021 at Wapakoneta Manor.

She was born on July 29, 1927 in Continental, OH to Roland and Myrtle (Spangler) Gordon who preceded her in death.  On June 26, 1949 she married Melvin G. "Mel" Schroeder and he passed away on November 6, 2015.

Survivors also include a sister Doris (Dick) Sanderson of Perrysburg; two sons and a daughter Larry (Christie) Schroeder of LaFayette, Tim Schroeder of Bellville, Rebecca Schroeder of Wapakoneta, 6 grandchildren Heather (Ben) Hurst of Hamilton, Lori Murphy of LaFayette, Amanda (Keith Diller) Davis of LaFayette, Kevin Schroeder of Lima, Alecia (Sam) Dole of Reynoldsburg, Sean (Jessica Kinsman) Byrne of North Olmsted; several great and great-great grandchildren; a sister-in-law Aileen Gordon, Sun City, AZ and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a grandson Richard G. Schroeder and two brothers George & Donald Gordon.

Shirley was a 1945 graduate of Continental High School and then graduated from the Miami Valley School of Nursing in the fall of 1948.  She retired after 28 1/2 years of service from Lima Memorial Hospital as head floor nurse of the orthopedics floor.  Shirley and Melvin enjoyed square dancing and were members of First English Lutheran Church.  After retirement she spent most of her time with her grandchildren.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Vicar Deborah Monnin officiating.  Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lima.  Family and friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to First English Lutheran Church.
